Good luck this new year. Enjoyed your posts even though there was precious little nervous water in them! I have seen people fish the mid Chesapeake target ships... not so bad if you don't mind a little strafing from A-10 Warthogs with depleted uranium shells! I suppose they are more dense than tungsten!

I live in Richmond VA and fish the same environs you do, Flats Fisher I love the fishing for local brookies, private and public trout waters, small mouth and stripers but long for the screaming reel as a bonefish takes off! Nice piece - totally agree about having a better outlook on life in general when you have a fishing trip booked!
A trout rising to a dry is hard to beat, a pike smashing into a lure is pretty cool, even carp on the fly are a lot of fun. But there's just nothing to beat tailing bonefish or permit, line pouring off your reel, a singing drag and the sun beating down on your back. I live for those moments...
It must have something to do with the feeling total immersion in fishing too - when you're in those situations you come in at the end of the day and it's all about a couple of beers, tie a couple of flies, have a few laughs with your buddies and start planning the next day. There's no need to think about anything else and you just can't touch that.

Nice to see another blog dedicated to the salt and bonefish in particular (at least in theory). Keep up the good work. I was down in New Orleans a few weeks ago and was pining for some reds myself, but being a last-minute trip my only viable option was to hire a guide and pay through the nose. I guess I just can't see dropping half a grand for reds, not for a single day's fishing. Giant bones, permit or tarpon, maybe. Anyways, next time I'll plan ahead and try to work out a way to DIY.

No worries, you do a pretty good job as is. Keep up the good work. At least you didn't try to substitute your bonefish fishing by attempting to catch anything other than shad on the Potomac this year. The Potomac was awful this season!

This is a great blog for those of us that are land locked and missing the salt! I hail from Missouri where the closest thing I have to a screaming bone is the annual spawning run of giant brown trout in the local tailwater. This past weekend, I did get to visit my family in the Florida Panhandle and absolutely killed the trout and a reds! Great time.

Like you, that new Tibor catches my interest. I have always been an able man, but am intrigued.
